Dogmanship

There are many different training methods. We have studied several of them. We found that the common thread running through all successful methods is the use of pressure, release, and reward to allow the dog to learn what is being taught and form a confident bond between dog and owner.

Pressure and release takes many forms, but we begin with leash work. Similar to Horsemanship, we put the dog first, then the person, and work together towards a common goal. We call this Dogmanship. As you already know, it is possible to force your dog to move with you. However, your dog will not be in a following state of mind and may actually go into an opposing state of mind, which slows down, or stops, learning altogether. With the use of leash pressure, and Active Release as a reward, your dog is able to clearly understand and quickly learn what you are communicating.

We have found that many dogs come to us in an adrenaline-addicted state, frustrating their owners into thinking they are impossible to train. We have techniques to de-adrenalize your dog, and teach your dog to calm down and focus on you. We shift your dog into a cooperative state of mind, where you work together as a team. You are the team leader, with your dog happily following you, proud to be your partner.

Experience has shown us that Dogmanship is not a science, but an art form. The bond that you form with your dog will not be created with a formula. Instead, this bond will be formed with the communication and effort between you and your dog.

Dogmanship is gentle, you will speak less and understand more. The conversation travels through the leash to your dog, and back up again, Because of the cascading response to your incentive, the entire leash conversation can become so subtle that the average person may not be able to see it.

We are communication-based dog trainers who do not limit ourselves to one particular training tool. We recognize that each dog is an individual and what works well with one dog may not work for another. We customize training tools to match your dog’s needs. Our method is always positive! We always reward dogs for making the right decision.

We address your dog’s state of mind. Only when your dog is de-adrenalized can your dog learn to be the best friend you want your dog to be.

We are professional dog trainers. We have successfully trained thousands of dogs, of different breeds, sizes, ages, personalities and temperaments. You and your dog will see real results, quickly.

This is our full-time profession, not a hobby. Dog training and behavior modification is our family business. We are committed to furthering our education, and attend workshops and seminars with other dog trainers. We also host workshops and seminars at our training center, bringing in people from all over North America.
